I have enjoyed a 25 year career in marketing communications in Manchester, Leeds and London.
I have been the managing director of three PR and communications companies since 1997, most recently of the brand marketing business of Burson Marsteller, the global strategic communications consultancy, where I spent three years on the UK board and was also chair of its EMEA brand marketing practice and member of its European leadership team.
The big agencies have their strengths and advantages but I believe that the quality of their advice can be compromised by the need to ‘hit the numbers’ each quarter by creating steady flows of work to feed the many mouths of junior staff delivering tactics and support large overheads.
My advice to clients isn’t coloured by these pressures and my clients, even multi-nationals who might be expected to work with large agencies share my view that projects teams of specialists can be brought together to deliver a programme and re-shaped just as quickly.
I provide a personal and attentive service to a small number of clients, currently in healthcare, professional services and retail, working with associates in specialist areas such as market research, digital design, SEO and staff resourcing to deliver programmes of work.
I am a guest lecturer on the MSc course in international PR at Manchester Metropolitan University a student mentor and until recently I was a committee member of Creative ProManchester.
